EDIT: I got some great feedback and decided to tweak this old work somewhat. Enjoy the muchly improved version!

VIEW A DETAIL

A book cover commission for Blacksent, a fantasy series by Michael A LaFlamme and Michael D. Poe coming soon to a store near you! Keep an eye on ~blacksent here on DA for more info soon to follow. I've read the preliminary tale myself and I can attest that if you like old school fantasy with humor, drama, and action, you'll like this tale! This is but the first of an ongoing series soon to come.

The barren shores of McAmal loom in the distance as Ncon and his loved ones survive a rough landing on the dark island's shores. But who is destined to survive the journey and who is not? This is a trip the assassin Ncon has sworn to take alone, but those drawn to him by deeper bonds will not give up so easily.

They are the Umbra and their bonds will be tested.

Prismacolor color pencil on slick illustration board. About 5 months work (on and off).

Ahaaaaa.. you finished it! Hoorah, it feels like you've been working on that since forever! But now it's done and dusted with, it looks fantastic, easily your most worked drawing to date, and it shows in the qulity of the final image. I absolutely adore Ncon, i think he's the best human you've done, the texturing on his skin is gorgeous. And had you said to me the sky was green, I'd have winced a little, but you really made it work well, and it adds to the mystery of the picture.

Quality oozes from every pixel of this work of art. I love it. I cannot tell you how excited I am about Blacksent!

Ncon prays with his sword before disembarking while Figment, Tala, Oug, and Zandor watch uneasily. The battered shore of McAmal ominously stretches out before them.

Just a little bit of writing that came to me when I first set eyes on this picture. ^_^

Just one question: Is Tala pregnant?

I was a little hesitant about the green sky too, having never tried such a thing before, but it came out just the way I wanted with a sort of ominous stormy appeal instead a bright scary giant green apple behind them. Ncon is definitely a scene stealer here and I don't think I'll ever be able to do facial fuzz like that again! Here's hoping he'll pimp himself out enough to make people want to pick up the book.

Now...what do I do with my free time? I've been working on this for so long! *rocks back and forth in a corner*

hahahaha no. She's just got old lady pudge. *pokes it* She's a bit older than her hair color lets on. Excitement is good! I'm off to set up ~blacksent today so that'll be the ultimate place to keep an eye on how the editing and illustration process are going.:nod:

It is AMAZING!
something that really caught my eye was the rocks in the bg! and the sky! its all so stunning! i cant imagine how painful that must have been for you to do in pencils 0_0

that kinda detail is jsut extraordinary!
