Archangel Uriel, the archangel of the earth. The concept behind this picture was to depict an angel weighed down with the heavy responsibility of guarding the gates of Hell, yet still he stands, ever vigilante and strong while the ages pass around him. Uriel means Light of God, and he is indeed a light in those depths so closest to the root of the earth farthest from Heaven. There he waits undertaking his duty with all the grace and strength imbued in him by the creator. Waiting till the day when he will destroy the gates of Hell and begin Heaven's reign. This rendition is a tad different than the traditional, but something that just sort of came to me. I used a combination of prismacolor color pencil for the main figure and vines and watered down arcrylics for the background. The next angel I hope will be Gabriel, if time allows. Prismacolor Colors Used Wings Light Umber, Tuscan Red, Beige, Rosy Beige, Terra Cotta, Cream. Skin Celadon Green, Peach, Light Peach, White. Angelic Drapey Thingy Light Umber, Dark Umber, Cream. Roses and Rose Vines Cool Grey 20%, Black, White, Canary Yellow, Cream. Staff Black, White, Cream, Light Cerulean Blue |

The roses look lovely, I love the rather sharp looking glow around them, it echoes nicely with the jaggedness of the vines and the sharpness of the feathers ^_^ I love the bright light concentrated in the background, it gives it such a beautiful focus, the light draws you to the figure, but then the wings drag you away to the rest of the picture ^_^
I'm not sure if it would enhance the pic at all, or take away from it or do nothing, but I'd love to see a bit more contrast in the color of the background, a bit darker brown at the edges. Also a bit more definition in the shading of Uriel's skin, I love the soft transitions, but I think if you accentuate the shadows a bit more, and maybe extend the softer shading to really bring out those beautiful contours it'll look awesome ^_^ You've got such a damn skill for rendering muscle tone, subtley or strongly, and I love to see you bring it out to its full effect ^_^
Hmm..I'm afraid to mess with the skin tone because it would require me to erase the skin and recolor it in order to add to the shadows since I've already laid in the layers of white highlighting, which has filled up the paper. If it's not too much of a hindrance, Im probably just going to leave the skin tone alone, but I do appreciate the commentary! As it is, I'm afraid to mess with this now that it's finally finished
Wooo!! *does the victory dance* IT'S DOOONE!

Hehe, I have little colored pencil knowledge, I'll leave it to your judgement about the skin ^_^

I see no flaws with the form. The colors and methods you used for he skin tones are excellent. The way he's posed, with his eyes hidden give the piece a feeling of mystery, and almost a feeling of solemnness. Also, the flowers seem to tie everything together, giving it an awesome sense of unity.
All I can say is, this is masterfully done.
